Tommy Wirkola’s splatter fest Dead Snow 2 will be released on DVD and BluRay in Norway in about two weeks.
Released theatrically in Norway in February and in selected cinemas and festivals around the world in the following months, Dead Snow 2 is the sequel to Wirkola’s 2009 surprise hit, Dead Snow. The sequel continues where the first film left, and follows the sole survivor of a Nazi zombie attack. In the film he battles an even larger army of zombies, with the help of The Zombie Squad, a professional gang of zombie killers. The first film had Martin’s worst day ever; he accidentally killed his girlfriend with an axe, chain-sawed his own arm off, and watched his closest friends being devoured by a zombified Nazi battalion. He could have assumed that things couldn’t get much worse, but it was only the beginning!
With influences from Wirkola’s home in Northern Norway, with lots of snow and probably zombie Nazis lurking under it (nobody quite knows what’s been hiding up there under the deep snow since WW2), Dead Snow became a cult favourite, and thus the bigger sequel was designed for the international market. It received fairly good reviews in Norwegian press, with ratings ranging from 3 to 5 on a 6 point scale. The film drew a respectable 76.000 fans to cinemas, almost twice the number of tickets sold for the RoboCop remake.
Now Dead Snow 2 is set for a Norwegian disc release by Nordisk Film on June 25th. Specifics include:
- Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS sound in Norwegian language
- Danish, Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish subtitles
- 2.35:1 widescreen image
- Region 2 coding
- Extras: A(r)men short film, special makeup featurette
The movie will also be released in foreign markets, including the USA where Well Go handles distribution. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, the exact release dates are not know, but the film will likely have an English soundtrack.
Well Go’s US president Doris Pfardrescher said this of Dead Snow 2: -Dead Snow 2 is nonstop fun from beginning to end and we’re thrilled to be able to bring it to Dead Snow fans in the U.S. It’s everything the fans loved from the first movie, except bigger, better and bloodier.
