The Norwegian directing duo Joachim Rønning og Espen Sandberg are in talks about helming Spectral, a US-produced ghost movie described as a “supernatural Black Hawk Down“.
The team, whose first feature was the Western comedy Bandidas (2006) with Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek, was recently nominated for an Oscar award for their biopic Kon-Tiki, but has now set their eyes on Spectral as one of their next films. Described as a “supernatural Black Hawk Down” or “hardcore Ghostbusters“, the multimillion dollar film is about a military force hunting ghosts on Manhattan. The project has been circulating for some years but no directors have been attached until now.
The potential franchise is scheduled to launch in 2014 through production company Legendary.
The script is written by the unknown Ian Fried, who the last few years reached the Black List on several occasions. That list includes the best unfilmed scripts in Hollywood.
How Spectral affects the duo’s planned Viking film is yet unknown.
